Introduction

Prepositions in Portuguese function nearly the same as in English. They form phrases to describes actions, such em cima da mesa (on the table).

The tricky aspect of Portuguese prepositions is remembering which preposition to use in a given context. Portuguese prepositions don't always translate one-to-one with English prepositions.

Also, Portuguese prepositions never come at the end of a sentence, like the might in English. For example, "She is coming in" does not translate to Ela está vindo dentro. Rather, you would say Ela entra.
