The past participle is the adjective form of a verb. It is similar to the ~ed form of a verb in English when used to desribe nouns.

Below is an example with the verb roubar:

   O livro roubado
   The stolen book

Also, it is used with the verb ter to form a variety of compound tenses as well as use the passive voice.

   Você tem comido?
   Have you eaten?
